Long walk home

R&D for a sand dune environment system. The dunes are a ‘three slice’ set up of decreasing resolution gridsĀ  – with resolution controlled by distance from the camera. They are parented to the camera in terms of horizontal rotation and position, and only cover the camera field of view.

The dunes are created by procedural noise in world space, so appear to be full 360 degree coverage when the camera rotates or moves. The dunes themselves are built and controlled with a dedicated rig for wind direction, dune height, height variation, ridge sharpness control and more.
